Behavioral Addiction
Addiction is typically considered to stem from physiological dependencies, for instance, a drug user needing doses to not undergo withdrawal symptoms, there is a need however to consider other factors which drive our motivations since without a physiological dependency people can be guided into destructive habitual tendencies which become usefully defined as Behavioral Addiction. Things such as a person is taking on a lot of stress at work and finds video games distract them from those troubles and they find that the relief is so liberating that they dedicate more and more time to it in an effort to remain insulated from their source of their discomfort which is not capable of being resolved by the behavior they have adopted. With time the issue may grow so large that leaving their sanctuary is unbearable creating an analogous effect to the withdrawal symptoms of physiological addictions.
